BlackNote Mobile Music School Policies

Please read the following policies carefully.  These policies are in place to protect and support our Teachers and our Music School.

The terms covered in this agreement will be considered in effect upon BlackNote Mobile Music School receiving payment or payment information for the holding of a class placement.

Registration and Payments:

A non-refundable one-time registration fee of $40.00 must be paid at the start of lessons.  There is only one registration fee per family.

There is a yearly administration fee of $25.00 for returning students and will be added to your first month’s invoice.

Full payment must be received prior to the start of the students’ first lesson.  Full payment includes annual registration fee and the first month’s tuition fees.  Lessons cannot start until registration is complete.  In the event payment has not been completed by the date of the students’ first scheduled lesson, the first lesson will be postponed until full payment has been received.  Continued failure to provide payment will result in the students’ timeslot being released to another student.

The amount charged at the beginning of each month will be for be for the number of weekly lessons in that calendar month.

BlackNote Mobile Music School reserves the right to increase the lesson rate for 30, 45 or 60 minute lessons at their discretion. Notice will be given in advance to students of any changes in fees.

Your Commitment to Pay:

Payment of lessons is expected at the beginning of each month. 

Failure to provide updated and accurate forms of payment will result in lessons being put on hold until payment has been processed.

Accepted forms of payment are, Visa/Mastercard or E-Transfer. *Continued payment by e-transfer will only be accepted if paid in a timely manner. (within 3 business days of your invoice date) Late payments will be subject to an additional rate of 5% being applied to your amount owing.  Students who continually pay late will be asked to provide their credit card information and will be transferred to automatic billing. 

Payment of lessons is to secure the students’ lesson time for the year, or until communication is received to terminate lessons. (see section – lesson termination)

BlackNote Mobile Music School reserves the right to schedule the teacher with another student in your timeslot if continued failure to pay is experienced without explanation.

Your Responsibilities:

Lessons run from September to June, with optional summer lessons.  You are responsible for remembering your weekly lesson time, knowing when lessons resume after any breaks or holidays. (e.g., Winter Break, Stat Holiday’s etc.) and being aware of dates for any recitals or events.  A yearly calendar will be sent to you at the start of your lessons indicating any breaks that have been scheduled for the year.  Notice of recitals, workshops or events will be communicated through email ahead of the scheduled dates.

You are responsible for communicating with the teacher in the event that the student is unable to be present at their lesson. Absences not communicated to your teacher will not be considered for a make-up lesson. 

You are responsible for providing current and up-to-date contact information.  This includes emails and phone numbers that you can be reached at.

In the event of lessons with a minor. A parent of person 18 years or older is responsible for being present in the home for the duration of the lesson. 

Cancellations (Late or Missed Lessons)

We reserve the right to charge for any missed lessons not covered by our cancellation policy.

24-hours’ notice is required prior to cancelling a lesson in order to be considered for a make-up lesson.  (see section – make-up lessons).

Students who fail to be present at their lesson time without prior notification of being late or needing to cancel, will forfeit their lesson for the day with no refund or make-up lesson. 

In the event the teacher shows up at the student’s home and the student is not present.  The teacher will wait 10 minutes.  If the student is still not present for their lesson time, the teacher will leave, and the student will forfeit the lesson with no refund or make-up lesson provided.  If the lesson starts late due to the student being late, no extra time will be provided to the student to make-up the missed time.

Missed Lessons by the Teacher

Any lessons cancelled by the teacher will be first offered to be made-up.  If a make-up lesson cannot be scheduled at a mutually convenient time, a credit will be issued to your account and applied to your next months’ tuition.

Make-up Lessons

Students are entitled to FOUR make-up lessons between the months of September and June provided 24 hours’ notice has been provided to the teacher.  If a make-up lesson cannot be scheduled at a mutually convenient time, a credit will be issued to your account and applied to your next months’ tuition.  (Max 4 credits per student)

Any lessons cancelled by the teacher will be rescheduled, or if a lesson at a mutually convenient time cannot be agreed upon, a credit will be issued to your account and applied to your next months’ tuition.

Make-up lessons will be required to be scheduled and completed before June 30th.

Cancellation by the student of any scheduled make-up lesson, are not required to be re-scheduled by the teacher.

Termination of Lessons

A 15-day official notice is required to terminate lessons.  Written termination is required to withdraw from lessons.  Written notice can be sent to office@blacknotemobilemusic.com. The 15-day period commences upon receipt of the written notice.

Should you choose to withdraw, you will be charged until the end of the notice period whether you attend or not.

Informing your instructor of intent to withdraw, or not attending classes, does not constitute withdrawal from lessons.

In the event of medical-related withdrawals, we require written notice from both a physician or other medical professional and the guardian(s) stating the student’s inability to continue with their lessons.

Suspension of Students:

We reserve the right to suspend students and terminate lessons for any inappropriate conduct by the student or parents, or for breach of this contract.

No refunds for remaining lessons in the payment period will be issued for suspended students.

Unattended Minors:

We require a responsible person 18 years or older, or the parent/guardian present in the home for the duration of all lessons.  BlackNote Mobile Music School does not assume any responsibility for the well-being and safety of minors who are left unattended.
